I was an SAE fraternity brother of John's. During the summer of 1961, John and I made an epic journey to Mexico and through the western United States. John's father had built a camper on the bed of his pickup truck. John drove the truck from his home in Fulton, NY to my house in Arlington VA. We headed south, hitting the southern states, crossing the Texas border into Mexico at Brownsville. We spent a month in Mexico, visiting Monterrey, Mexico City, Acapulco, Mazatlan and many small Mexican towns. We crossed back into the United States at Nogales AZ. From there we toured California before heading due east back to Arlington through the western states. Needless to say, this was a pretty wild time for a 19 and 20 year old from OWU. We lived in the camper for 3 months fortified with a lot of fast food and cheap beer. We met many interesting people along the way and had many stories to tell. I last saw John a few years ago at his home in Key Largo FL. I miss my good friend and fraternity brother and all the good times we had together. Don
