Obituary of Joseph J. Cozart

Joseph J. Cozart, 94, of Fulton, passed away Wednesday, November 9, 2022 following a brief illness. He was born in Fulton and at a young age began working on a farm for $1 a day that included dinner. After graduating high school, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served during the Korean War. Joe was also known to be one of the youngest soldiers to earn the rank of Sargeant. After Joe was honorably discharged from the Army, he began his longtime career as a Millwright at Black Clawson from 1960 to 1975 and continued his work with the Millwrights Local #1163 until his retirement in 1995. He and his wife, Betty enjoyed spending their winters in Myrtle Beach. Joe was active in several organizations which included the B.P.O.E. Lodge #830, Fulton for 57 years, a life member of the Polish Home and a member of the American Legion Post #587, Fulton for 23 years. He was also a member of the First United Church of Fulton since 1958 where he served as a Deacon for many years. Joe was very proud of earning the rank of Eagle Scout. In his free time Joe enjoyed working at home in his woodshop and at the age of 94 he made his great granddaughter a rocking chair. He is survived by his daughters, Becky (Mic Sherwood) Cozart of Marana, AZ. and Bonnie Jo (David) Naioti of Fulton; his grandchildren, Matthew (Megan) Naioti, Eric (Sarah) Naioti, Momina Naioti and Melanie (Nicholas) Miklowski; one great granddaughter, Violet and five nieces. Joe was predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Betty on September 8, 2022; a son, James Cozart in 1959; his brother, John Cozart; his sisters, Anna Cozart, Julia Youngs, Katherine Chalone and Mary Petrilak A calling hour will be held from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m., Monday, November 14, 2022 with services to follow at Brown Funeral Home, 21 Flood Drive in Fulton. Burial will be in Mount Adnah Cemetery, Fulton. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Joe’s memory may be made to the First United Church of Fulton, 33 South Third St., Fulton, NY 13069.
