News Alert from the New York State Funeral Directors Association

Effective March 22, 2020

There will be no PUBLIC funeral ceremonies or visitations in New York state because of Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s executive order Friday that bans all gatherings during the coronavirus shutdown.

Bodies will continue to be buried or cremated, but PUBLIC funeral services for relatives and other mourners must take place later, said Mike Lanotte, executive director and CEO of the NYS Funeral Directors Association.

UPDATE

FROM THE NYS FUNERAL DIRECTORS ASSOCIATION

We have new, and positive, updates regarding the COVID-19 pandemic. Namely, the following will take effect when the Executive Order starts March 22, 2020 at 8pm:

We have confirmation from the Governor's office that immediate family may gather at the Funeral Home for a private viewing/ceremony.
Despite some recent news stories, the Department of Health DOES recommend that disposition take place now, but if there is proper storage available and the family wishes to wait that is allowable. _________________________

NYSFDA has been advised by the Cemetery Association that family members may still be present at committals and graveside services after the Executive Order takes effect on Sunday, March 22, 2020 at 8 pm. We recommend contacting the cemetery beforehand.

Funeral homes are considered "essential services" and open to help families. Please feel free to contact us with any concerns or questions.

Peace be with you during these trying times,                                                                        Mike and Ross

We are pleased that you have taken the time to view our website and believe when choosing a funeral home, you should select a funeral home based on their reputation and how they care for their families. At Brown Funeral Home, families always meet with the owners of the funeral home that are with you every step of the way. We offer affordable cremation options, complete traditional funeral services, a large beautiful chapel, an on-site banquet facility and believe our true value is in the service and care we provide to the families that call upon us.

Our Story...........

Michael Brown and Ross Belfiore purchased Grace Bible Baptist Church on Flood Drive and transformed it into Brown Funeral Home with the purpose of providing the community with a "New Level of Care" in funeral service.  As friends working together at another funeral home in Fulton our partnership began with the purchase of a funeral home in Cazenovia, New York which is now Michael E. Brown Funeral Services. Built on a foundation of hard work, compassion and honesty we saw a need to provide the residents of Fulton with quality, compassionate funeral services. Everything we do is in the best interest of the families we serve and we are personally involved in every aspect of the services we provide. The several options offered to families are based on a standard and every family is served with dignity and respect regardless of their financial means. Our chapel is spacious with seating for over 150 people, offers an on-site banquet room for up to 60 guests, our funeral home is completely handicap accessible and offers an audio/visual system that allows us to play Video Tributes and music in our chapel during visitations and services which can be easily heard and viewed by all in attendance.

Michael Brown has been a funeral director and trade embalmer in Central New York since 1999 and considers it an honor to be the co-owner and operator of Brown Funeral Home. He resides in Fulton with his wife, Jennifer (Pawlewicz) and their seven children, Elizabeth, Julia, Mikey, Campbell, Matthew, Catherine and Gabriella.

Ross Belfiore is a lifelong resident of Fulton and the co-owner and operator of Brown Funeral Home. He has over 40 years of experience in funeral service as a licensed cosmetologist and working funeral services. His extensive career in education brings a comforting presence to those dealing with the loss of a loved one.

Let our approach to funeral service help you to honor the life of your loved one. Unlike most funeral homes, at our funeral arrangement conference, both Mike and Ross will sit down with you to go over the many details in arranging the services. While we may make recommendations, you will never feel pressured or discouraged in the type of service you select.

In February of 2020 we opened our banquet facility which is attached to our funeral home and seats up to 60 guests. This recent addition is beneficial to the families we serve making the transition from the services to the reception very easy.

We are a member of the Central New York Funeral Directors Association, the New York State Funeral Directors Association and perform with a high standard of ethical values to the families we serve.
