Brown Funeral Home is one of a select number of funeral homes who meet the criteria for providing green/natural funeral services by the Green Burial Council; a tax-exempt, nonprofit organization working to encourage environmentally sustainability in the field of funeral service.
We are pleased to offer families the option of having an environmentally friendly form of disposition with a Green (Natural) Burial. Green (Natural) Burial is caring for the dead with minimal environmental impact that aids in the conservation of natural resources, reduction of carbon emissions, protection of workers health and the restoration and/or preservation of habitat.
While most people select cremation as a form of disposition with the thought that it is environmentally friendly, it has been calculated that the carbon footprint of the cremation process is equivalent to a 500 mile car trip. Embalming, a burial vault and synthetic materials are not allowed to be used in a Green (Natural) Cemetery, all preparations for the burial must utilize natural, non-toxic and biodegradable materials.
As a Green Burial Council approved provider of Green/Natural Burials our green/natural burial package includes our services for body preparation, storage, transportation, graveside services and the filling out of all necessary documentation, permits and certificates. We offer Green Burial Council approved hand made wood caskets manufactured by the Florence Casket in Florence, Massachusetts which contain all natural biodegradable materials.
